History of Love Trilogy Story

Discover Ezra’s 3 album trilogy

At the heart of my History of Love trilogy is a wild, personal journey—three chapters told in song, straight from the raw places where healing begins. These albums follow the real story of my family—how we went through the unraveling of a marriage, the ache of separation, and the long, slow road back to something whole again. It’s about the kind of love that doesn’t come easy—but is worth every hard mile.
The first album, YOU, is full of the weight and wonder of love right on the edge—where heartbreak, longing, and a little bit of hope all meet. Then The Family Songbook steps into the quiet years that follow, where you try to make peace with the past and rebuild what matters most.
And We Were Wild—that one’s a kind of release. A celebration of living honest and wide open, even with the scars.
These aren’t just songs to me—they’re lived-in chapters. Messy, beautiful, and full of soul. My hope is, somewhere in all this, you might hear a bit of your own story too.

YOU – Beginning of the Trilogy

YOU is the first chapter in my History of Love trilogy—an acoustic-based album that dives into the beginnings of love, the weight of heartbreak, and that deep, aching pull for connection. It’s honest, unfiltered, and full of the mess and beauty that comes when love doesn’t go the way you hoped. This album set the tone for the whole journey that followed.

The Family Songbook – Heart of the Trilogy

The Family Songbook is the second album in my History of Love trilogy—an intimate look at the healing years, when my family was slowly finding its way back together. And I was finding the legacy and meaning of family. These songs are rooted in long nights of reflection. They celebrate the quiet, steady strength it takes to mend what’s been broken and try to build something whole again.

We Were Wild – The Final Chapter

We Were Wild is the final chapter in my History of Love trilogy, and it carries a spirit of freedom, redemption, and honesty. It’s the sound of making it through the storm—not without scars, but with a deeper understanding of who I am and what really matters. These songs came from that place—where you finally stop running, start forgiving, and learn to live with open hands and an open heart.

Cozi anda Flounder Music

Cozi anda Flounder – A Father-Daughter Folk Duo

Cozi anda Flounder is a special project between me and my daughter, Cozi—a collaboration that grew out of late-night songwriting and years of singing together. We blend cosmic country, indie-folk, and soulful storytelling into songs that explore love, faith, and finding your place in the universe—with harmonies that can only come from family.

Our debut EP, The Place, is now available, and our newest release, Bobby, Bobbie, is in limited release.

Live from the Deep (Live in Deep Ellum) 2016

Live from the Deep was recorded live to analog tape in Deep Ellum, Texas—one of those nights you never forget. Just me, the band, and a room full of folks, all caught on tape with no edits and no safety net. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s full of soul.
We played some fan favorites and a few songs no one had heard yet, and the energy in the room that night made its way straight into the recording. What you hear is exactly what happened—music, the way it’s meant to be.

Promise Land (Ezra/Thomas) 2006

Promise Land is a special one for me—it’s the album I made with my longtime friend and collaborator, Aaron Thomas, under the name Ezra/Tomas. Folks have called it “a masterpiece of emotions,” and I think that’s pretty cool, but for me, it was an incredible breakthrough experience in my music-making mind.
We poured everything we had into it — It’s a cinematic kind of record, full of longing, love, and redemption. Produced with real heart, Promise Land is one of those albums you can get lost in for a while.

Sinners & Slaves 2010

Sinners & Slaves is a collection of songs I recorded around 2009-2010 years, during a time of searching, wrestling, and growing. It’s a mix of old scars and flickers of grace—raw stories wrapped in folk, rock, and soul.
I worked with some incredible friends on this one, including Jeff Stanley, who co-produced a few of the standout tracks like Road to Zion and Paper Sky, which later went on to win awards and land in film and TV.
This album holds a lot of pieces of who I was becoming—and if you’ve ever found yourself caught between faith and failure, this one might hit close to home.

Weight of Being (Ezra/Thomas) 2003

The Weight of Being was the debut album from Ezra/Thomas—the production duo of me and my friend Aaron Thomas. We made this record with Grammy-winning producer Mark Hallman, and it became our way of chasing down beauty in the middle of struggle.
It’s a melodic, folk-rock experiment, full of heart and honesty. We played just about everything ourselves—guitars, mandolins, drums, congas—you name it. And through all of that, what came out was something real: a record that blends soul, twang, and truth in equal parts.
This was where it all started for us, and it still holds up as one of the most honest pieces of work I’ve ever been part of.

The Wills Session

The Wills Sessions is a stripped-down, front-porch kind of record I made with Leslie Wills, who comes from the legendary family of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. It’s just the two of us—two voices, some guitars, and whatever else I could find in my home studio… and a bunch of stories we were ready to tell.
It’s full of Texas heritage, honest harmonies, and heartfelt songwriting. Nothing fancy—just a deeply personal set of tunes, captured in the raw, like a quiet conversation between old friends.
